I met Andy & David a few months before there wedding day and these guys were two of the kindest people I have ever had the chance to meet and believe you me it was one wedding I will never forget. Andy & David put so much thought into their wedding plans from the colour scheme right down to the small details.
Tell us about your story pre your wedding?
Me and Andy met at University 15 years ago. he was a media student, I was a trainee teacher. We instantly bonded and spent the next 15 years developing our relationship and creating our home. We made the decision to get married in September 2016 and arranged the date for July 2017. Though we were able to get married many years before as the law had changed we didn’t want to jump on the bandwagon and do the ‘gay’ thing. Eventually, we felt the time was right. My Uncle in Australia had passed away and generously left a lump sum for his nieces and nephews. We used this to pay for the wedding which he would have loved. We spent 10 months planning the wedding, having family disagreements and some blowouts but mine and Andy’s relationship has always been founded on friendship so we rode the storm and made it to our day.
What were your favourite parts of the day?
We loved every second of the day. Everyone around us took the stress and we felt relaxed enough to enjoy every second. Our photographs were a joy rather than a chore and they way we organised them we spent all our time with guests rather than off and about shooting different images. I couldn’t pick a favourite moment, to be honest.
What are your top tips for couples planning their own wedding?
Though the venue is important, find people that connect with you. Danielle at Charnock Farm, Mel at Sparkle, Wendy at Adorable Cakes, Kyle at Weddings by Kyle, we developed close ties in order to achieve what we did. If you haven’t got that bond a wedding becomes clinical and a process of events. We were very lucky to be surrounded by such talent and amazing people. Simplicity makes the biggest statement and impact. Subtlety creates beauty and this, in turn, creates a memorable wedding. Create something unique. We created little unique ideas for wedding invites and thank you cards. Glow sticks and bubblefetti. Bring that element of unique without stressing yourself out. If it rains as it did on our day, embrace it with all of your heart. We called it ‘Mother Natures Confetti’. It makes for stunning photos too. My most import advice is on the day, let all those around you worry and stop, look, listen and absorb. Before you know it it’s all over.
